150-years celebration on the Gausta mountain at Rjukan, Telemark
A Verne-celebration took place at the summit of The Gausta-mountain, on July 29 – 2011
– the very same place the author climbed at the exact same date, 150 years earlier.

The event was arranged by the Rjukan world heritage organization and The Gausta funicular company, in the evening, inside the Gausta mountain lodge. Local musicians performed traditional Telemark music and a presentation on Jules Verne and Norway was given by Norwegian Verne researcher, Per Johan Moe.

In the same weekend the outdoor play; Marispelet was performed. This play is based on the legend of ‘Mari’ – also a central theme in the Verne novel, Lottery Ticket.

Unfortunately, the spectacular view of the 103 meter high waterfall can no longer be admired permanently – as all the water nowadays is channelled through a hydroelectric power plant.
But during these July days though, the water is let out in the open:
